In September, TORCC published a trail map of Burke Mountain
that had been compiled by trailticker.com.
TORCC received frequent requests for maps of the area from individuals in
the mountain bike community. As
well, TORCC hoped that putting out this map would benefit the riding community
as a whole and encourage mountain bikers to ride existing trails and refrain
from building additional lines.
A limited run of 60 maps were printed and distributed to local
bike stores.
Many builders have since voiced their concerns that publishing
a map of such detail may put the trails in jeopardy.
The Burke Mountain area is very sensitive for mountain biking use.
Because many of the trails are in a provincial park, there is concern
that publicizing the numerous trails might jeopardize the current state of
affairs. Therefore, TORCC has
chosen to suspend any further printing or distribution of this map.
TORCC exists largely in part to support local trail builders
in their efforts and we will work with them before undertaking any further
mapping projects.
